These two on a slab of rock are looking out to the lake seemingly wondering
what lies ahead as they begin their Fall migration. They are beautiful
creatures with their red heads, looking not unlike teenagers sporting new
and different hairstyles with their straight up unmanageable tufts of
feathers.
In this scene one can almost feel the slight breeze moving their feathers
and the roll of the waters behind them. A large diving duck with a long
thin bill, the Common Merganser is found along large lakes and rivers across
the northern hemisphere. The long bill has toothy projections along its
edges that help the duck hold onto its slippery fish prey.
